How to Choose an IPTV Plan: Months, Screens and What Really Matters

How to choose an IPTV plan: three plan cards for 3, 6 and 12 months with one, two and three screens

Choosing an IPTV plan comes down to two decisions: how long you want it for, and how many screens need to watch at the same time. Get those right and you pay for exactly what your household uses. This guide uses SofaIPTV’s own plans as the worked example, but the questions apply to any provider, and you can compare every option side by side on our pricing page.

If you are not sure yet whether IPTV is right for you, start with our guide to what IPTV is and how it works, then come back here.

Decision 1: How many screens at once?

A “connection” is one stream playing at a time, not one device. You can install your subscription on every TV, stick, phone and laptop in the house; the number of connections only limits how many of them play at the same moment.

Count the most screens likely to be watching at once on a normal busy evening:

  • 1 connection: you live alone, or only one person watches at a time.
  • 2 connections: a couple, or one viewer who wants two games on at once.
  • 3 connections: a family with a living-room TV, a bedroom TV and a tablet often in use together.

Multi-connection plans cost less per screen than buying separate single plans. Our guide to how many IPTV connections you need has a worked example for a family of four.

Decision 2: How long?

Longer plans cost less per month. With one connection, for example, 3 months costs $35 (about $11.67 a month), 6 months costs $49 (about $8.17 a month) and 12 months costs $69 (about $5.75 a month).

A simple rule:

  • 3 months: you want to try the service properly first, or you only watch during one sports season.
  • 6 months: you are happy with the service and want a better monthly price without a long commitment.
  • 12 months: you know it works in your home and want the lowest monthly cost.

You don’t have to decide on day one. Start short, and move to a longer plan at renewal once you are confident. Renewing on the same account keeps your login and app settings.

Which plan suits which household?

  • Trying IPTV for the first time: 3 months, 1 connection ($35). Low commitment while you check stability at peak times.
  • Solo viewer who is happy with the service: 12 months, 1 connection ($69, about $5.75 a month).
  • Couple or two TVs: 6 or 12 months, 2 connections ($82 or $115).
  • Family with three screens in use: 12 months, 3 connections ($162, about $13.50 a month for the whole household).

Check these before you pay

Whichever provider you choose, these matter more than the headline price:

  • A free trial. Test on your own TV and connection, ideally on a busy evening. Our 24-hour free test checklist shows what to check.
  • Renewal terms. Does the plan renew automatically? Ours don’t: nothing is charged unless you choose to renew.
  • A written refund policy. Read the conditions before buying, not after.
  • What “all channels” means. Check that the channels and leagues you actually watch are included.
  • Payment methods you trust. Avoid providers that only accept gift cards or other methods you can’t dispute.
  • Support you can reach. Send a real question before paying and see how fast the answer comes.

What every SofaIPTV plan includes

All plans include the full channel list and the on-demand library; the only differences are length and number of screens. There are no setup fees and no automatic renewals, and paid plans are covered by our refund policy. You can pay by card, PayPal or cryptocurrency, and most orders are active within 5 to 30 minutes.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying the longest plan before testing. Use the trial and a short plan first.
  • Counting devices instead of screens in use at once. Five devices with two people watching needs two connections, not five.
  • Ignoring your internet speed. Each Full HD stream needs about 10 Mbps; three screens need about 30 Mbps plus headroom. See internet speed for IPTV.
  • Falling for “lifetime” deals. No provider can honestly promise service forever.

Upgrading later

Households change. If you need another screen, message support with your username and the number of connections you need; the account is upgraded and your login stays the same, so there is nothing to reconfigure on your devices.

Summary

Pick the number of screens from your busiest evening, then the length from how sure you are. Most people do well starting with a short plan and moving to 12 months once the service has proven itself at home. Ready to compare? Frequently asked questions

Is a 12-month IPTV plan worth it?

If the service already works well in your home, yes: it has the lowest monthly price. If you have not tested it yet, start with the free trial and a shorter plan.

How many connections do I need?

Count the most screens playing at the same time on a busy evening, not the number of devices you own. One per person watching at once is a good rule.

Can I change plans later?

Yes. You can renew for a different length or add connections; your login stays the same.

Do IPTV plans renew automatically?

Not with SofaIPTV. When a plan ends, nothing is charged unless you choose to renew. Always check this with any provider before paying.
